10 month old tantrum at daytime bedtime

HI, My 10 month old has just started to have tantrums when he goes for his naps during the day. I normally give him a bottle and rock him for a while. Then I place him in the cot and rub his belly. Usually, he would go to sleep and I could leave. Now he has started crying and if I pick him up he bucks, screams and pinches me. When I put him down he continues to cry and this will continue for a long time. I try to cuddle him to sleep and rock him but he seems to know its bedtime and I am putting him down. At night he usually goes straight down and only has one feed during the night. I'm not sure what to do!
Should I cut down his sleep during the day? Or try controlled crying? He usually has two naps for around 1.5 hours each so I am wondering if he is just trying to cut out some of his sleeps during the day. Any suggestions welcome!

It's not a tantrum at that age, his sleep requirements are probably changing and he isn't as tired so trying to tell you. Try a short morning nap a big later in the morning, say 9.30 until 10 or 10.15 then leave him for a longer one starting about 1.30.
