17 month old turned into terrible sleeper

DD can self settle and used to be a great wee sleeper up until about six weeks ago (coincidentally right after her mmr). Since then she has taken to waking up at random times in the night and crying on and off for ages. She doesn't cry constantly but will cry for a few minutes then go quiet for a few minutes then start again.

I haven't a scooby what is going on!! DS was a terrible sleeper as a baby and we had to resort to controlled crying with him which was awful but worked in two nights.

As DD can self settle and used to sleep through the night no problems I haven't a clue what to do.

Any suggestions?

All patterns of eating, sleeping, behaviour, contentedness, etc will change and evolve as children get older, learn and experience more, and gradually become more independent.

So you can't expect things to remain the same for very long. Try less naps during the day, make sure bed-time is relaxed and happy, and maybe keep her up a bit later. Give her a doll or teddy for company in bed, or a special blanket, or whatever.

Thanks Ferguson, she had slept with the same comforter since 3 months. I just don't know if she us trying it on or if there is genuinely something wrong. It has been rubbish for nearly two months and am struggling with full time work!

If a form of CC is required, ir gradual retreat then I am prepared to do it. I just don't want to if she is teething, separation anxiety or this sleep regression I have read about!

She naps fine and I normally have to wake her up after two hours or so. And for the most part goes to bed fine between 7 and 730.

They certainly like to keep us on our toes!
