I have a DD who was 1 earlier this month. She has always been a good sleeper (obviously she has had her moments) and has always needed an early bedtime which we have encouraged. She gets put in her cot at 6.30 and chats away to herself until she falls asleep usually about 6.45. Her usual wake up time is anytime between 6 and 6.45 which is between 11 and 12 hours sleep. She without fail, wakes up in a bad mood crying and grizzling. We give her milk in her our bed which sometimes cheers her up for a few minutes, then she cries again. This morning I gave her breakfast at 7 to see if it would help, which it did for a while then she descending into her usual grumpy self until I put her for a nap just before 9. I feel like she's still tired, but she does have a long sleep so I don't understand why. She naps 9ish until I wake her at 10, then again at 1.30 until about 3pm. Does anyone else have a child like this? It is getting me and my DP down a little as mornings are so high voltage. She is fine for the rest of the day!

There have been about 5 days in DD's life (she's 11 months) when she's woken up chatting and gurgling. The rest of the time she wakes up and instantly starts crying and it takes ages to bring her round. She's the same after naps. It's nothing to do with how much sleep she's had. I don't know any other babies like this so I'm glad to read about yours! I tried sitting in her room at nap time so I'm there when she wakes up, and then she doesn't cry, but I can hardly do that all the time. I just figure it's her temperament and there's not much you can do - she's happy the rest of the time.

My 13 month old is the same! Make mornings very stressful. No advice but you are not alone!

Mine is the same!

I'm glad it's not just me! I was starting to wonder if I had the only grizzly waker. She's the same after a (long) afternoon nap as well. Today she woke after 2 hours and was inconsolable despite a snack and her favourite toys offered to her. In the end I just had to take her out for half an hour but it is is tiresome, especially in the mornings. Hopefully they will get better with age :-)
