Nightmares

Not sure if this is the right section for this, but... 3yo DS has had an imagination explosion in the last few weeks. All his play is now pretending to be people and making his toys be other people. He's also suddenly having nightmares every night and coming running for me, or crying and waking dd, or... generally causing sleep loss.

We went swimming the other day and why we were getting changed he asked me to explain nightmares to him. I did, and told him they're not real and everyone has them. He says his are about lions and wolves, but I suspect that is his waking brain trying to explain generic fear based dreams.

Can I do anything to help him other than try to ride it out and comfort him when it happens?

3yo has been frightened by seeing lions and wolves somewhere , book, tv play school ?

Ask DS to tell you about lions and wolves gently to find the source and then explain why they are not dangerous as in they live in zoos these days.

All should be become clear.

No, it's more that he knows they are scary and so is using them to explain generic nightmares to me, if you see what I mean.
