Hi everyone,
My 16 month old has taken to waking around 1-2 and staying awake crying for 2 hours. Previously a great 7-7 sleeper. we think he is teething molars.. any tips on how to deal with this? we are currently feeding him a bottle of milk, rocking etc, but he takes so long to get back to sleep, and we are wrecked!
thanks x

My 2nd DD is 12 months old and also done this recently - molars were indeed the culprit and 4 popped up within a couple of days! If he was a 7-7 sleeper he's probably a good self-settler and not used to you trying to help him which is why he's awake for so long while you rock and feed etc - it's not the way he's used to going to sleep! The only way we got ours to sleep quicker was to offer her calprofen, teething gel and a cuddle in our bed (where she'll never fall asleep!) After 20 mins once the medicine would have kicked in, we popped her back in her cot, made sure she was calm and then left her. She grizzled (even cried for 5 minutes...) but would be asleep again within 15 mins or so rather than awake for hours while we intefered beyond the medicine. Good luck.
