My question is how many mum's nursed their babies to sleep and then baby learnt to fall asleep when he was old by him self?

how old do you want to fall asleep by self.
I fed mine to sleep.
When they became able to fall asleep by self depended on personality, I reckon.

It's just when my little chap gets tried he wants to nurse. Then he falls asleep nursing most of the time. He is 8 months old and not sure if he will every be able to self settle if I carry on like I do?

Of course he will, he won't be in your bed when he's 12, will he?

I'm afraid you have to experiment to see what is possible with your own child. For me, any kind of weaning was a precursor to full weaning so I wanted to keep going at night / on demand until at least 15 months.

Ds is 7 months. Sometimes he falls asleep nursing & I pop him in his cot asleep; other times he finishes feeding & is still wide awake. When that happens I put him in his cot & sit next to him, hand on tummy/sshh etc till he falls asleep (about 20 mins). Night wakings/feeding etc are the same whichever way he goes to sleep (still wakes lots at night unfortunately).
