How to make cot warmer and more cosy for 6mo?

At the moment my 6mo DS goes to sleep fine in his cot in just a sleeping bag, but after his first wake-up (anytime from 10-12) I bring him in to bed with me and he sleeps/bfs for the rest of the night and my DP sleeps on the sofa.
For various reasons (my early-waking/baby-waking 3yo being the main one) I think it's time to get him sleeping in his own room all night as I'm hoping if I'm available to get the toddler back to sleep we might all be spared some of the 5 am starts.
Anyway, my question is, I think DS2 likes the 'cosiness' of sleeping next to me and I wondered how I can replicate this in his cot, especially now that the nights are getting much chiller. I think if I can make the space feel smaller, warmer and more cosy he is way more likely to re-settle but with so many concerns about babies and sleeping I'm not sure what I can safely do. Thoughts and experience please?
