7 week old baby - expecting too much?

I have 7 week old dd. my first dd slept through from about 9 weeks. She was ebf and I never had to wind her. I realise I was lucky with her but from very early on I did install a very rigid routine so not sure if luck and a mixture of the routine did the trick.

I'm just wondering if I am expecting too much at the moment with dd2. Her routine at the moment is 7pm quick bath, lights dimmed in bedroom whilst putting on babygro pjs, nice calm non social ff (she is not ebf like my first baby), then winded and laid in Moses basket with lights off. She wakes about 11 for another feed then goes through to about 3.30. Then a shorter sleep till about 5 when she seems to only really wants a small feed, maybe 2 ounces. Then she gets up with us about 7.

Can anybody critique this routine? I'm not sure if expecting too much at this stage?

Thank you Grin

Better than my 7 week old! He won't go straight sleep after his bath which is at a similar time, it's more like 9pm before he goes to sleep (recently). Depending on whether we do a late feed or not, he will then wake either 2 or 3.30ish, then 6ish then 8ish. He also still needs his dirty nappy changed at least once in the night which always disturbs him no matter how quietly I try and do it. So interested to hear others' experiences as I could do with some longer stints of sleep!

Oh I wish, my DD is nearly 7 months old & has slept through the night twice!

I wish I knew the secret Grin

Run - forgot to say I only change DD's nappy if its a poey one in the middle of the night. One less thing to do.

Have become obsessed with sleep!

What are you expecting from her? It sounds pretty good to me

noblegiraffe · 06/11/2013 19:08

You're expecting better than that? Yes, I think you're expecting to much and should be counting your lucky stars instead!

milkysmum · 06/11/2013 19:08

It really does seem pot luck how they sleep. Dd now 4 years slept through from 8 weeks ds now age 2 years still struggles to do a full night! At 7 weeks I think the routine seems pretty good

Sounds bloody brilliant to be honest! A miracle to have an evening at all at 7 weeks. Go baby Fresh!

KippyVonKipperson · 06/11/2013 19:09

Hate to say it, but I think you got lucky the first time!

Thanks all. Was not meant to be a brag, just wondered honestly if anybody had any views on my routine to "hone" it.

I love routines, lists, organising my whole life. Lol I do have a life really.

Hope everybody has a good night with their little ones!
