I have a routine in place but I feel it needs altering slightly and I wondered what others did for their children around 17mths Smile

Through trial and error what worked for us was:

Dinner
Bath then pyjamas
Then back into the living room to play/have books read/sit with us whilst we eat (often eating cheese or drinking milk)
Change into night nappy
Clean teeth
Then to bed

This stopped me sitting in a darkened room singing to DS for up to an hour whilst tearing my hair out with frustration trying to persuade him to go to sleep.

Basically DS always likes to know that he's not missing out on anything Smile

We've now changed it slightly so bath is before dinner before he often comes back from the park covered in mud (he's 2.1).

His actual bedtime varies depending on how tired he is.

DS is17 months now. We do:
5pm dinner then play until 6.30pm, which is bath time.
c6.45 - milk on dad's lap, cuddle up watching a bit of tv, then up to his (darkened) room for a story, again on dad's lap. Then he's put into bed for about 7pm. If he's still lively then he gets another story in bed, then a good night kiss and he's left to drift off.

If he's had a late or particularly long daytime nap them it all happens 20 minutes later, or earlier if he hasn't slept well in the day.

We found that if he has play time after his bath he finds it hard to settle, which is why he stays on dh's lap having a bit of quiet time until he's ready to go up to bed.

DD is 17 months.

5pm ish dinner
5:30pm in playroom usual playing/reading etc
6pm upstairs to lounge (townhouse) for some Peppa/cartoons while drinking some water/milk
6:30pm into bathroom mess around for 5-10 mins running bath, putting in toys, chasing to get clothes off game
7pm ish to bedroom to get into pjs and sleeping bag then pick a book to read. Snuggle up with story then light out for cuddle and our song I sing her.

Either cuddle to sleep if I've been at work or feel she (or me!) needs it that day, or straight into cot awake and she has her blankie (muslin) and sucks her thumb.

Dinner 5pm then play and read books until bath at 7pm. Drinks some milk on the go whilst playing and reading. Plays in bath and sing songs and read bath books. Straight into his bedroom for pyjamas, kisses and cuddles he puts light out and goes into cot to go to sleep around 7.30/7.45pm.
