How cold is too cold?

Ds2 is 15 weeks and we've moved him to his own room as we all sleep much better. Problem is that it's the coldest room in the house

His hands are like ice cubes when I feed him at night but body etc are toasty warm. It was 14 degrees this morning.

Long term plan is to move him in with his brother when he's sleeping through. But now I'm worried that won't ever happens as he'll be freezing!

House generally is cold as it's cold and we're trying to be frugal with heating.

16-20 degree is ideal. What clothes and blankets are you using?
We used to wrap dd in a blanket from the chest downwards (so there was no risk of it going over her head) and then put a little cardigan over her sleepsuit to keep her top half warm.
It's ok for their hands to be fairly cool though, as long as their chest/neck is warm.

Get an oil filled radiator with a thermostat. No need to have the central heating on all night but it ensures your LO's room is warm enough! I just got one from morrisons for £25 and it's great. Her room is nice and cosy!!!
I also put her in a fleece sleepsuit with a vest under it.

I'm a big fan of baby sleeping bags as they can't kick them off. even if the price of the brand 'grobag' is too much you can still use their guide on what to wear underneath whichever one you do use. For example, at 20° in a 2.5 tog bag they would only need a long sleeve vest. I think their guide is on their website.

their little hands do get cold but if they were really cold they would wake and let you know! it's more dangerous to be too warm.

I would avoid putting artificial heat in the room in case it got too hot and as i find it can dry the atmosphere leaving them thirsty.

He is sleeping in a 2/3 tog sleeping bag, long sleeved vest and sleep suit. Put him in a fleecy one the other night but he still woke up the same amount and had sweaty feet in the morning!

We've had an additional radiator fitted in there (we took out the massive one last year and new smaller one wasn't enough) so I know it's warm when he goes to bed and in the morning. Might just need to add a cardie when it get properly cold!

I think it's normal for baby's hands to be cold as their circulation isn't as developed. If the rest of him is comfortable why not try popping some mitts on him? Never a hat, though, as he could overheat.

I think babies actually sleep better in colder rooms. DD2s room rarely gets above 16 degrees and she sleeps wonderfully. Though, when she was little she did wear a vest, pjs, sleepsuit and a baby sleeping bag on the coldest winter nights!

Try socks on his hands as he might be touching his face and startling himself.

If his chest is warm then he should be ok, fleece doesn't allow excess heat to leave, try adding a cotton top or cardi.
