10mo naps gone to pot. What am I doing wrong??

DS had been in a nice pattern of having a 30-40 minute nap in the morning and then a 90 minute nap in the afternoon.

In the last few days he keeps waking up after 45 mins of his afternoon nap and WILL NOT go back to sleep. I don't rock or shh pat or anything: he is too big to rock, and if I go in the room he will be wide awake straight away and ready for playtime. He has previously been very good at self-settling after sleep cycles so not sure WTF is happening at the moment?

This means he ends up waking up from a 45 minute nap at 2.15pm ish and is then awake until bedtime.By 6pm he is usually rolling around on the floor howling. Anyone else had this? Is it a phase?? Can I fix it??

It's probably just a developmental leap. I would just keep n following the same routine, and he'll settle.

Is he teething or full of cold? anything that would disturb him between sleep cycles?

If not, another explanation is that he's not quite tired enough to sleep more than 45 mins... could you try pushing his afternoon nap a bit later (this might mean a later bedtime though) or possibly cutting down his morning nap (this is what Gina bloody ford recommends but I can never bear to wake a sleeping baby just as I've sat down) - see if one if these gets him back to the nice long lunch nap? I had something similar recently and a later lunch nap start worked, she was ready to go longer between sleeps basically.
