What is your experience moving the bedtime feed?

Ds is 5months, we have a solid bedtime routine of naked kick around, bath, massage, feed, bed at approx 6.30pm. He was settling for bed and sleeping really well until about 17wks, generally doing 8-9hrs, waking for a feed and going til morning. He's had the classic sleep 4month sleep regression and I feel I'm having to resort to bf more and more to resettle him - i find it impossible to tell when he is hungry but i'm often feeding every 3-4hrs which seems a lot (he gets plenty to eat in the day) and is leaving us both a bit overtired! I've generally avoided feeding him to sleep and settle him in his cot for bedtime and after night feeds but after reading the no cry sleep solution I'm wondering if I need to separate the bedtime feed from bedtime so he loses the feed/sleep association. Before I mess with our routine I just wondered what other's experiences had been of trying this and also where you moved it to? I'm working hard on his naps but because these are hit and miss (he's a cat napper) he is so sleepy by bedtime I don't think i could fit in anything after his feed so wondered about feeding at the start of the whole routine? Any advice appreciated :)

Never had any success doing this. Whenever I fed my DC at that time and that age they would just crash out.

I have a 5 month dd. We have same routine as you and she goes down around 6.20 - 6.30 depending on how long she will let me massage her.

I've always done play, feed , bath then massage. Then put in cot awake . Some times she will fuss other times go straight off . We have been doing this from around 4 months.

She will then sleep to 11/12 pm where u will dream feed her but then still wakes up at 4 which I'm convinced it's out of habit. So trying to phase it it out. She would drain 7 oz but last night only offered 3oz and that was fine ( little monkey) she went back down till 6.30am .

I've discovered the more dd sleeps during the day (scheduled ) naps the better she sleeps at night!.

Yep, I've found the same with naps but cannot persuade him to have two long naps - if he has a long morning nap he will catnap the rest of the day despite clearly being tired, if he catnaps through the morning he will have a decent two hr afternoon nap, crazy kid! Good luck phasing out the 4am feed :)

Epic fail here! Tried switching from story-bath-feed (to sleep)-bed with my 5mo. She went with it for a few nights then starting getting really upset when I put her down. So I now do bath-feed (with lights on so she stays awake)-into sleeping bag - story - bed. It's still hit and miss how well she self-settles, but I think I am beginning to see an improvement in terms of night wakings.
