Cot bedding

What are the 'rules' around things in a cot.

DS is 9m and so far has absolutely nothing in his cot bar his blankets. I see pics on FB (yes, I know I shouldn't read too much in to people's FB lives) of friend's babies who have all sorts in their cot.
Today, for example, I saw a cot with a bumper, bedding set, toys and mobile.

Now, DS's mobile said to remove once he was pulling up. I read that bumper's weren't to be used as they can cause suffocation if they come loose etc...

I'm not asking to criticise other people, i'm asking as I think DS's cot looks, quite frankly, boring!! However, I don't want to go fancying it up if it's not safe/advised.

didnt use a bumper, removed the mobile once they could pull up on the bars. They did have a few soft toys in with them though. Used a sleeping bag so didnt need bedding sets/blankets, etc

You are correct. I see some pics of cots stuffed with all sorts of crap!

Dd is 22m and has finally got a little flat pillow and a duvet. Thats it. Never had a bumper and the mobile just kept her awake.

Another one here with pretty sheets and gorgeous sleeping bags. But yeah, it's boring. DD doesn't care.

Cheers guys. I'm heading over to mothercare today to have a look for some pretty sheets. See if I can jazz it up safely.

Have any of you sleeping bag users got a tummy sleeper. DS keeps kicking his blankets off so was thinking of trying a sleeping bag but not sure if he'll get a bit tangled with being on his tummy.x

once mine could roll over they slept on their tummy with their bum in the air - managed it fine in the sleeping bag too.

Thanks, that's fab - gonna give it a whirl!
