Me again!!! - No naps for 2 month old

Sorry to bug you guys again but my 2 month old is still refusing to nap during the day. From 7am to 7pm he will get maybe 10 minutes if I'm lucky. Watching for sleepy signs 2ish hours after waking up. When this happens I put him in his cot with his music and a few kisses. Silent for about 5 minutes but then all hell breaks loose. He doesn't settle if I go and sooth him or pat his back, so eventually I pick him up where he grins then falls asleep on my shoulder. He's obviously playing games with me but don't know what course of action I should take. 7am - 7pm without sleep for him OR any down time for me is driving me bonkers. I wouldn't mind if he catnaped during the day but he doesn't even do that, not even when we are out for walks. From 9am onwards he's no pleasure to be around and only gets worse the tireder he gets. I want to leave him to cry to end this but is it too early?? Anyone had the same trouble?? - suggestions pleeeease.

Hello
Can't think of anything useful right now (2.9 yr old is driving his ambulance over my head) but nice to hear from you, how are things in the Sinai?

quick bath and a massage before midday feed?

kiwicath · 14/02/2004 18:42

Hi Suzywong. Haven't been able to get out today as there is a mother of all sand storms going on outside. I guess that's why I'm feeling abit closed in and depressed. I'm used to being so active with my diving that all this inside stuff is really getting to me. Try to get out as much as possible but all the neighbours must think I'm the worst mother ever as Jake always seems to be skwarking due to his over tiredness - still, at least there's nought wrong with his lungs!!

I had the same with dd and cut out all tea etc as I was b/feeding. This did make a difference for a time as I think she was wired from all the caffeine! However, she is now 7 months and still dosen't sleep much during the day unless I sleep with her ( or pretend to then creep away). I personally think it is too early to leave him to cry. I tried to make things very boring around the time I wanted her to sleep, so no chattting or stimulation just quiet in a darkened room so she couldn't distract herself. She also didn't sleep in pushchairs but sometimes in the car. Sometimes also she would nod off watching the washing machine in her rocker chair, could always try it!? Sorry not much help I know but lots of sympathy, I think some baby's are just too interested in whats going on to sleep. Take care.

Kiwicath
I agree with Jessi about too early to leave to cry.

Thanks guys. Going to nip to bed for 40 winks before 10.30 feed. I guess I should be grateful that he sleeps well from 7pm onwards. Will check messages in the morn. Hopefully bright clear sky tomorrow so we can get out and about

Lots of sympathy! The only thing that worked for dd at that age was feeding her to sleep and then putting her in the motorized baby swing. I did controlled crying at about 5 months to get her to take naps in her cot (worked very quickly but was noisy!). Have heard people recommend swaddling and a pitch-black room. Or getting the cotside down, and half-lying in the cot with them, as close as you can get, arms around him, cuddling him to sleep (and then hold breath and creep off!).

MIne wouldnt go in his cot - only on the hoof tillhe was 5 monhts ish

I would leave himto cry alittle if you have tried everything. say 5 mins?
