Why has 10mth DS stopped napping?

Hi,
My DS started sleeping through (almost) 7 until 6.30am. I am thrilled of course and he was also napping approx. 1.5 hrs in the morning and 1.5hrs in the anow he nfternoon and maybe a 'power' nap at about 5pm for 30mins. This week he has decided to sleep for 40mins in the morning and 40mins in the afternoon!!! He will only sleep in his pram in the hall. I used to be able to put him in and he'd fall asleep but now needs rocking first for 10mins. If he hears a slight noise he wakes up but this wasn't always the case.

Any idea why - is this normal. Any advice. Shall I try him in a travel cot (as want to keep the cot for night time naps)?

At about that age my dd was having maybe 10-15 minutes in the morning if I went anywhere in the car or pram, that's all she'd have in the morning but she'd then have a good 2-2 1/2 hours sleep from 11.30/12 ish. She still has her lunch at 11 ish! Maybe your ds wants to drop the morning nap?

thank you - i always thought it would be a gradual thing, dropping naps but obviously it's more drastic! sob

It's a really difficult time when you drop naps. My dd would be tired by half 10 but as long as I gave her a decent snack around 10 she'd get over her tiredness a bit and then she'd have lunch just after 11 and then have her sleep. I never managed to get her to have a little nap late afternoon so by 6 she was ready for bed! She slept 6.15/6.30pm until 7.30am at that age. She's 19 months old now and still sleeps for 2 1/2 hours mid day but she normally makes it until 7pm now and sleeps until 7.30am. The first 9 months were hell with regards to her sleeping but she's brilliant now!
