Too tired to fall asleep ....

so DS2 is screaming his head out.
Each time that DS2 is coming back from the nursery tired (Has slept about 1 hour instead of 2h), he is a nightmare to put to sleep. He can not settle, screams and nothing is calming him down. Patting him, holding him ... is not working. Bf is not possible anymore as HE decided to stop (after bitting me). The only thing that seems to work a bit is to put him in his pushchair. However, this is not an option because I can't be at two places at the same time. I also need to put DS1 in bed at about the same time and when DH is away for work, there is noboddy else to look after one or the other children.
The worst thing is that he is doing the same during the night too ...
So I found myself leaving him screaming until he falls asleep (10 ~ 15 min) but find that very very difficult .
Any idea on how to tackle this problem ??

You need a method that you are happy using (take your pick from PUPD, CC, ETC.) that you are confident in so that you don't find yourself looking for innocuous reasons for him not sleeping.

Putting in the pushchair, holding him and this sort of thing is preventing him from getting settled probably. If you are confident he is tired then you both must accept that there is nothing else for it but for him to be in his cot until he relaxes - with you checking him or sitting near him.

I always go for checking every 2 mins when working with families unless they desperately want to remain in the room. You should be able to do this while putting your other child to bed.

Overtiredness is often described but seems almost mythical to me. We all need 'another reason' why they won't settle when sometimes there isn't one.

Try believing firmly in his need to sleep and don't be swayed into the familiar song and dance you are currently experiencing.

Some kids need to have a scream before bed to let the stresses of the day out.

I suppose that my problem is that this issue is relatively punctual (He is going to nursery just 2 days a week) and there is no problem during any other day.
Also I have never let any of my children crying it out and that's probably why I find it so so hard to find out that's perhaps the only way to let him falling asleep or going back to sleep.
