Suddenly screaming at sleep time

My almost 12 mth old has never been the best sleeper. After months of feeding to sleep we developing to lying him in his cot and holding his hands while he went to sleep for naps and at bedtime.

He always woke about 3 hours after bed and came in with us for the rest of the night because he wouldn't again settle in his cot. This wasn't ideal but I'm back at work and we all got some sleep!

In the past week he's started cruising, cut a top tooth, started saying no and seems suddenly much more grown up!

However, instead of holding hands and happily going to sleep he's started screaming hysterically at sleep time. He's inconsolable and although clearly tired, will not calm down.

It's taken a car ride to calm him down enough to sleep but I don't want to resort to that and get into any more bad habits!

Has anyone got any tips or has been through this and can reassure us! It's horrendous!

I'm totally anti cc by the way.

Thanks

No real advice, mainly sympathy, but could the heat be making it worse? Anything you can do to cool the room down? My dd has been taking ages to get to sleep since it got so hot.

Thanks neon. I'm sure the heat isn't helping either!

My 12 month old did this for three nights when it suddenly got warm. Not sure if it was the weather change or what but we cut out any naps after 3pm and now he's bloody exhausted at bed time and pretty much begs to go!
