So the first 2 weeks were generally ok but not my dd won't sleep after the majority of her feeds (ebf). She fusses for hours after each one - we have started letting her settle on us but then as soon we put her back in her Moses basket she cries.

I am exhausted and at my wits end. Can anyone help? I'm not sure if its wind but I am spending ages burping her. Is this normal or a baby of this age? I wanted to start a proper bedtime routine but it has kind of gone out of the window. I am petrified that because of how we are she is already getting into bad habits and that we will have no chance if a routine in a few weeks time.

Your time and responses would be greatly appreciated as I am desperate for sleep

A three week old cannot get into bad habits, so don't worry about that. She wants to be held by you because she's used to being with you, she's still so new.

Don't worry about a bedtime routine either for now. In a few weeks time maybe think about it.

It's exhausting at this stage but it will pass very quickly. Can you grab some sleep whilst your DH holds her.

Big hug. It will get better. Give her head a sniff for me.

Ooh one other thing. Tiger in the tree hold (google it) worked wonders for my DD when she was windy.

You might find you can put her down after a bit or only at certain times of day (DS would only sleep in the moses basket during the day). I co-slept after a few weeks of utter exhaustion and we both finally got (some) sleep. Is that something you'd consider?

My son also struggles wit Moses basket. He is the same age your dd. don't know if you've tried these tricks but they (sometimes) work... We put a hot water bottle in to warm the sheets, along with a muslin that had been on me for smell. I then feed him to a deep sleep and put him in (after removing bottle obv!) my midwife also suggested putting a rolled up towel around him to make it cosier (difficult in this heat)... I also now trick him by putting him on his side as he settles better like that, then when he's been in for about 5 mins I gently roll him on his back. Good luck! Xx

I always have to warm something that smells like me to settle DD. we have a slumber bear that does womb sounds etc which soothes her too. She has napped in the Moses basket 3 times! I try anything and everything for naps - sling, car ride, out in pram and rainforest swing from fisher price all help in the day time!

I found this webpage about sleep patterns really helpful too.

To encourage you, DD is 14 weeks now and has continually improved as the weeks go by!
