Hi All. For baby number 2, I plan on attaching a cot/co-sleeping thingamijig to the side of my bed. I'm trying to get to the bottom of what options I have - with a tall (24 inch) bed height of my own, and also wanting something that my (it will be big) baby won't grow out of too soon and start to hit his/her arms/feet against it. My first son shared our room for 8.5 months and had outgrown his moses basket at 5 weeks. Does anyone have any advice for me about how/where to look for items to buy, aside from plodding through the shops with my tape measure? Thank you.

Most people I know do a DIY job with an Ikea sniglar cot. You take off one side, adjust the base so that the cot mattress will come to the same height as your mattress and ta-dah! The perfect cosleeper cot.

Hi YamiofYawn - thank you. I've been trying to get to the bottom of what heights the Ikea cots adjust to. All it says on the website is that they adjust to two heights. I can't see how to tell if I could get it flush with the height of my bed (24")..?

I have never done this, but I think that you just drill new holes at the appropriate height.

Clever, clever thinking... Thanks. I'll look into it :)

I'm on my phone and links ate tricky but if you google "convert cot cosleeper" you will find loads of tutorials.

One thing I didn't do, but wish I had was to get a mattress custom-made to fit the space including the gap between the cot and the bed. There are various mattress shops that do foam mattresses for babies and can cut them to size for cheaper than a similar mattress from a baby shop.

We had a single bed to the side of the double which dh slept on so I slept with baby in the main double.

When we chucked him out into a cot, he was old enough by then to come into our bed duvets and all if he woke for a feed in the night.
