Night feeds-3month old

My bottle fed dd takes 5big feeds between 7 and 11pm (between 5 and 7 fl oz) plus one mini 2fl oz but still wakes once or twice during the night apparently ravenous for a large feed (so another 4-6 fl oz) Two issues I suppose. Aibu to expect her to go through from 11 to 6 or 7 (dd1 did but was ebf) and am I worrying unnecessarily that I am over feeding her? This amount is well over guidance.

I can't answer on over feeding as not used formula but in terms of sleeping 6/7 hrs I'd say that every child is different and I've seen plenty who do nothing near that at three month it really depends on your little one.

In terms of over feeding - is she staying on her centile? And are you feeding her when hungry or to a routine? If she is staying in centile and feeding when hungry then it sounds like what she needs but others who have formula fed might have a more useful insight.

Meant to add that if you remain unsure then ask HV but in terms of night waking I have heard of much worse!!

I'm not bottle feeding but that seems a lot of milk in a short period of time. Could she is waking with wind? Too wet nappy? My DD is 3 months and a good night is feed at 8ish, 1 and 4 til 6.30. They only have small tummys which need refilling quickly. I wish mine would sleep through too though - I am tired!

Can I clarify whether it's five feeds between 7am and 11pm or 7pm til 11pm?

haloflo · 13/06/2013 09:51

I think I might have read it wrong - surely the op means 7am - 11pm?

Herhonesty · 13/06/2013 11:14

Yup 7 am to 11pm

In terms of number of feeds that sounds normal to me but volumes I don't have any expertise on sorry

We combine fed DS1 & after a bf would still happily take between 5 - 7ozs of formula from 8am - 8pm & once before bed took 13ozs so if I were you I wouldn't worry too much about the amount so long as lo is gaining well & following the centile

Ds is bf with 3 formula feeds per day, in the evening he takes 180ml at 8, 11 then is bf at about 4 then 6:30. There have been a handful of occasions where he has pretty much slept through but I can see no reason why he happened to go longer on those night's (plus I probs got less sleep with giant boobs& worrying if he was ok)!
