Sleep regression in a five month old? Any ideas?

My lo is five months and up until recently was sleeping well. She has never been great at daytime naps, but may take one or two half hour naps, maybe a little longer. She would then go down at 7.45 pm - 10 pm, when I would wake for a dream feed. She would then fall asleep and be in bed at around midnight and go through until 5/ 5.30. I would then feed her in bed at about 6 am and we may both doze for an hour or so.

This week, it's all gone wrong. Everytime I put her down for a nap or evening sleep she either wakes or goes for 45 minutes and wakes. Once awake she is happy enough if I hold her, but she wakes herself up completely and seems extremely alert. Rocking, singing and shushing seem to have little effect. Only thing that helps is eventually taking her into bed and offering the boob.

I am exhausted, and so is she. Has anyone got any ideas? I think teething might be a problem, I think she is also overtired. I just don't understand why she used to be able to sleep for 5, maybe six hours in a go, and now struggles to do one hour plus? Do I just need to ride it out?

Yep:-( I went through this for weeks with my LO who is now 6 months. He didn't need helping back to sleep as such as he will go straight Back off with his dummy but he went from sleeping most the night to waking every hour for about 6 weeks. Then it just changed. He settled down for about 2 weeks and now we are back to frequent wakings at night again due to him rolling over all the time. Just encourage normal night behaviour and try not to do anything different that will make her want to stay with you and not in her cot. It's tough. I cried myself to sleep on many occasion. Whit noise does help if that's any good for you. Sorry. It does get better i promise but its always changing. No week is ever the same xx

Same as carly.

Hv told me there's a huge growth spurt around five months. Dd had settled really well and was waking twice, then ramped up to every two hours feeding day and night and wouldn't settle without boob. She advised me to hang on in there, which I did, and now at 7 and a half months she sleeps through 7:30pm-6:30am.

I was almost demented at her worst, and I think it lasted 3 or 4 weeks, but all is well now.

This too shall pass x
