Making the room dark

This may have been discussed before but how do you make your nursery dark? We have blackout blinds but the light seeps through? Also, if you get it dark, do you use a nightlight?

Are your blinds in the window recess? If so, could you put some curtains up? that would make a big difference.
I don't use a nightlight, but have one of those soft focus lights dimmed low on the landing instead.

They are travel black out blinds from the Gro company. I put it over a normal black out blind, hung over curtain rail or suckered to window. Not greatly attractive but Doss the job nicely (and u can Take it on your hols).

We fitted a piece if black out blind into the actual window itself. Always been dark.

They are great! and a little night light (actually, it's a gro thermometer)

Gro blackout blind here too...small plug in nightlight but have it in socket on landing instead of DS room. Currently redecorating his room and have bought blackout curtains but plan to keep the Gro blind too, as another poster said, handy for holidays/travelling.

My friend cut out a large square of thick black paper from an art shop and literally blue-tacked it to the window in her DD's room, so that no light whatsoever could get through. Really helped her.

We have blackout blinds in the window recesses and blackout curtains hun on poles above the window recesses in DS's room and it keeps it pretty dark. Especially considering his room is east facing. He is still waking up around 6.30am every day, even though I am sure the sun must be coming up earlier than that now?

We got our blinds made to meausre really cheaply on a great website called blinds247.co.uk or something like that. The Blackout curtains are ring top ones which we found in the Gerry's At Home sale...

If the window is in a slight recess this works:

Buy a piece of blackout lining from your local haberdashery. Big enough to cover the entire recess.
Also buy a length of stick and sew Velcro.
Peel and stick the 'sticky' side of the Velcro on the wall directly above the window.
See the other piece of Velcro onto the blackout lining.
Put this up nightly, take down in the morning.

Very effective and costs less than £10.
