13 month old keeps waking!

hi all since my 13 month old wall ill 4 weeks ago he will now only go to sleep with a bottle or being rocked. and wakes up to 4 times a night hes not teething and iv tried giving him juice or water but he will scream till he gets milk. it took me weeks to get him into a routine of going to sleep on his own and sleeping all night any suggestions would be great also whats the best way of doing controled crying?

I had this with my 14mth old DS when he was ill we started allowing him one milk bottle at night as he was not eating anything during the day. So he would have a bottle before bed time and then if he woke up and we could not calm him down DH would give him a bottle thinking he was hungry but then when he was better he kept still waking for his milk in the middle of the night so we had to get tough and we had 4 nights of crying and NO MILK and then he was fine. I felt okay doing this beacuse I awlays made sure he had eaten well during the day. I didnt do CC i just stayed with him and when he stood up in the cot I would lower him back down
