Night feeds - change or feed first??

Which is the best way round to feed and change my lb when he stirs for his night feeds? If I feed him first he usually falls straight back to sleep but I risk fully waking him when I check/change his nappy, and if I change him first he wakes himself up properly as he's crying wanting his feed! Can't
seem to win. Does anyone
have any tips as to what is the best way to do this without disturbing him too much??

I never changed nappes at night unless there was poo. When I had to I would feed first, as there's nothing worse than having to change, feed, then change again!!

I changed the nappy first and then he would be more likely to fall asleep when feeding. Changing nappy after would make it harder to get him back to sleep

He wakes even when I undo his sleep suit just to look in his nappy!

Is he a newborn?

Get some baby nighties so you don't have to undo a sleepsuit at night. I only changed nappies if there was a poo. If the baby poos during/after a feed you'll have to change anyway.

I only ever changed pooey nappies at night

He's 5 weeks old. Is it ok to leave him in a nappy all night if he's only we'd in it?

Yes, I wouldn't change a wet nappy at night.

canran · 28/02/2013 22:09

If you're bf, feed one side, change the nappy then feed the other side. Most of the time this worked for me. I guess if bottle feeding you could feed half, change bum then feed other half?? Good luck!

Where would sell baby nighties? I've never seen them, only sleep suits.

I got some in TKMaxx but I think I have seen them in John Lewis too. Sometimes they are called baby gowns or bundlers.

KD0706 · 28/02/2013 23:17

I didn't even undo the baby gro to look for poo. I just lifted her bum to my face and sniffed it!! Blush

After and only if pooped in it - and, just use your nose as the guide. DS wakes up too, but I either feed him again or if he's not interested, just sit there in darkness, holding him with no interaction. He soon nods off again. Shame the same strategy doesn't work between 6-10pm but that's a whole different story!

Loubyloulou88 · 01/03/2013 12:16

Ah yes, the curse of the evening grump!! I'll use my nose to guide me. Thanks for your help.
