How do I stop her waking at night?

Dd is 10 months old and has never been a great sleeper. At about 8 months I did controlled crying which was fantastic as I can now put her down awake and she sleeps for much longer before waking for a feed. But in the last few weeks she dropped from three to two wakes at 10ish and 4ish and although she does seem hungry at the first feed, she doesn't really feed at the second. I've mostly stopped bfing - I only do these night feeds and don't want to get in to getting bottles washed and sterilised and milk heated up as a bfeed only takes 10 mins.

I've suggested to DH that he could get up to her, but that went down like a lead balloon.

She doesn't eat all that much in the way of solid food, although she has a bit 3 times a day and sometimes a snack or two and three or four bottles of formula during the day.

What to do?

The only way not feeding her in the night will work is if your DH goes to her - otherwise she won't understand why you are going to her but not feeding her. I'd do the 10pm feed and then send dad in with a cup of water and a cuddle at 4am.

I would just feed her. DD woke once or twice a night at that age and very occasionally does that now at 14 months but at about 11 months she started sleeping through regularly all by herself.

If she doesn't eat much then she's probably hungry at night. Feed her at 10pm and cuddle her at 4? That sounds like a decent chunk of sleep to me.

Is she getting enough milk in the day? When did you introduce formula?

What Sam said

You do the 10 o clock
Dh goes in at 4

Sorry just saw she gets milk in the day.

So night feed at 10pm, drop one milk feed in the day to bump up her taste for solids and she will get there. My dd is 14 months and sleeps through mostly.

My dd is ten months too. Similar sleep patterns to yours. The advice i have had, from my mom and hv, is to go to her when she wakes, comfort her but just not feed her. (However, am ignoring said advice as dd has just learnt to shout "mommamommamomma" very angrily at me when she is upset, and i Dont think i can face a telling off at 4 am, so i'm sticking with the night feeds). Good luck!.
