Problems with baby napping during day

My 4 mth won't nap anywhere other than my nap. I try and put him in his cot and moses but he just cries. How long should I leave him to cry - I find it hard. Should I just chill and enjoy him on my lap, he's too big for a sling. I try putting him down awake but he doesn't like it. Is he too young or am I getting him into bad habits? Confused

I'd enjoy the snuggles, as he will grow of it soon.

My DS did that until he was about 7 months, then just sort of got the hang of cots.

Will he sleep if you take him a walk in the pram or a drive in the car?

My 7 month old daughter only just started napping in her cot, I always let her nap in my lap but now she just prefers the cot, having her own space is better I guess :) So yes just enjoy it but if you feel you want him to go into the cot there are ways you can encourage it.

He's still v little & they love a snuggle. Maybe look at getting a better sling? I got an ergo when DS was 5 months & he lives it. He naps in the cot now mostly it has come in v handy with the separation anxiety phase Smile

If he's your first DC, make the most of it and let him nap on your lap - and you can get some rest too!

Mine napped on my lap till about 6 months. Last month (he's 7 months now) he has napped in his cot with me rocking him a little initially. This afternoon it took me about 2 mins and going in to give him his dummy. He's now been asleep 90 mins. Progress!

I never got mine to nap in their cots in the daytime, but always used a pram/pushchair for them to settle into during the day

A 4 month old isn't too big for a sling (unless you are using a bjorn style and don't find it comfortable). Try some different slings if you think sling naps would work for you. I did at least one sling nap a day for ages as it was the best thing that worked.

Now at nearly 10 months he will sleep fine in the buggy but will not nap in the cot. I don't even have to take him for a walk in the buggy unless I want to - I just push it on and off the doormat for 5 minutes or so to rock him to sleep.

Kat - my DD has been in a sling from birth (either a ring sling or a Kari Me) but funny thing is now she's almost 6 months she just will not sleep in it! In her opinion, it's a great place to watch the world, but sleep is strictly for the car or the buggy! Grin
