First thing to mention is my Ds is 22 months, and since he was about 3 months old he has woken once per night for a feed. He has always been easy to get to sleep, and the night feeds take 10 minutes, so I've always managed to convince myself that a milk feed in the night is better than the possible alternatives (eg waking at 6, multiple wakings for hours etc). But recently we have been waking him at 11 for his 'night' milk and he's been going through. I thought it was progress. Until last week, when he suddenly decided to have his milk at 11 and then wake at 3/4 for another bottle.
So it was getting a bit ridiculous. I know of no-one else whose children were having milk in the night at this age (waking occasionally perhaps, but not demanding milk).
So last night I went cold turkey (ish). Woke him for milk at 11 and when he woke again at 4 I refused to give him milk. He cried on and off for an hour and then slep until 7.45.
But Now I don't know what to do tonight...should I wake him for the 11 o'clock milk and tackle that issue at another time, or would waking him at 11 for milk give him a mixed message about milk at night?
And in people's experience, how long before they get the message and stop demanding milk in the night?
Thanks for any advice!
