14mo early waking

DS is 14mo

He goes to bed at 7:30 or 8 and has a morning nap 9 till 10:30 and then 3 till 4

He sleeps through but wakes around 5

I work ft and I'm shattered

I think he is waking as he is cold. He always kicks his covers off and though his room is warm when he goes to sleep its cold by 5am with no covers

I could be wrong though

Any advice would be great as I am so tired!

If you think it's the cold, have you tried a sleeping bag so he can kick about without the covers coming off?

Is he ready to drop a nap do you think? DD went from two to one nap at 12-13 months.

However, for about 6 months around that age and a bit older she went through phases of waking up at 5, then would sleep in a bit later for a while, then back to 5... It was hard and I never 'fixed' it, she just grew out of it.

I second the idea of trying a sleeping bag too.

I was wondering about a sleeping bag but didn't know if they were ok to use once they were mobile

I think I probably do need to move him to 1 nap too

Are sleeping bags ok? What happens when he tries to stand up (I know that sounds stupid Blush )

I think they're ok assuming he still has the cot sides up (so wont go falling down the stairs in it). I put DD in a very long one (ie 2-3 years) at that age so there was plenty of material to let her stand up in it. It was stretchy material too which helped I think.

He does have the cots sides up

I'll have a google

Thank you so much :)

Keep using the sleeping bag, it can't hurt. They are perfectly safe even when they can stand up. I think you should move the 9am nap later because they might be waking early knowing that they can make up the sleep later that morning. At 14 mo they can probably stretch to 10.30 even if they wake at 5 am. They will likely be changing to one nap soon too, starting later morning. Having said all that, it's not the magic answer. Ds had changed to one nap since 14 mo and still fairly frequently wakes at 5.30 ish....am hoping he grows out of it, especially now he is walking. Another tactic could be earlier bed time as early waking can be due to over tiredness.
