Rules for co sleeping with newborn

I've unintentionally ended up co sleeping with newborn the last few nights. Can anyone give me the rules for doing this safely if we carry on? Am not sure I have the brain right now to read a book on it.

I tucked my duvet in so it was waist height only and that it couldn't be pulled over dd.

Also switched to a 4 tog and wore more PJs so I was warm.

No pillows

Also kept dd in thin grobag and one layer of sleep suit underneath. I had a cellular blanket for bitterly cold nights.

Also DH slept in the other room. Baby should never be between you and someone else.

ive co slept with all 3 of mine, still co sleeping with 11 month old i nwver changed covers or used a grow bag dd sleeps in the crook of my arm so i feel her move and ive never had any problems, its lovely getting woken up with kisses from her now

Yes I second the crook of the arm, if you lie with your arm straight out above the babies head you won't roll on them.

The WHO has a PDF file you can download on safe co-sleeping.

My dd sleeps alongside me which is a bit easier I think as she will wriggle up if hungry but isnt sucking all night, and she's sleeping on her back mainly. I got rid of my pillow and slept in a sleeping bag - DH has quilt on other side - tucking duvet under waist doesn't always work and I get cold - we also bought a bed rail fm kiddicare: mind you dd ends up in the middle! DD in grobag dressed for temp of room. x
