Napping/self settling in a 10/11 week old

Hi, I have DS at nearly 11 weeks and DD at 3 years. DS just started sleeping longer stretches at night between 3-5 hours, he's ebf. But naps in day are a nightmare Confused. I try to take him up when I know he's tired, but by the time I've fed/rocked him to sleep he wakes up as soon as I put him down then by the time we start again he's overtired and he begins screaming - very loudly - I never remember DD doing this. In Pram or Carseat he nods off straight away. So my question is do I try ssh patting? I'd have to try when DD at nursery. I'm very soft and can't bear the crying, feel guilty etc but if he's tired and he needs sleep its not doing any of us any good is it.
On googling lots of people think 10wks is too young for sleep training as such ?
Any advice/ideas welcome! Feel like I've made a rod for my own back but those early weeks were so tough I'd do anything for sleep!
Thanks
