newborn noises in sleep - normal?

this might be a stupid question, but I know nothing about babies! Our newborn (4 weeks) makes lots of noises in her sleep. She's a bit sniffly but mostly the noises sound like she's straining to poo or something! I look into her basket and she's definitely asleep. It's driving me to distraction as I barely sleep at the mo.

Neither of mine did, but a friend had to move her DD into her own nursery at 3 weeks because her night time noises were keeping both parents awake!

Oh yes, I remember that! Yes, completely normal. It doesn't last that long, unless you've got a snorer.

Congratulations on your new baby!

She has snored a few nights because of her sniffles! I just find the noises so odd now as sometimes she sounds pained.

When DS was a teeny tiny newborn he used to make an absolute racket. He still calls out in his sleep now and he's nearly 7 months!

DS used to make noises i would always describe a guinea pig noises... Snuffly wheaky grunts! Very amusing and I cant wait to hear them Again with DS2, perfectly normal as far as I know Smile

Oh god, I remember, one of the first nights after I came back from hospital, I fed DD1 then DH took her and settled her down in her Moses basket (I had a c-section, and was a bit immobile). He got back into bed, I turned off the light and we settled down to sleep. DD1 started chuntering - on went the light, up we got, all worried. She was sound asleep Grin

By the time DD3 came along, when she chuntered in her sleep, we'd just think 'Ahh, we'll wait and see if she really means it!'

Phew, glad it's normal! Thought it must be as it doesn't disturb her, but my tiredness is making me worry about everything!

Strawberries - I like your description of it sounding like Guinea pig noises, that's definitely accurate!

Haha I always remember my GP telling me that babies sound like hedgehogs on 40 a day...
