Too much sleep?

hello - first time here so please excuse any mistakes!
Want to know if there's a problem since ds sleeps so much - sleeps 12 hours at night and day time naps can last over 3 hours!! He is 17 months old. If we wake him early from nap he is grouchy and tearful. If we let him sleep he still goes to bed ok at the usual time.

He has been poorly alot recently but is this really unusual?
(don't be jealous he only started sleeping through the night 3 weeks ago - before that I was a zombie!)
thanks

This sounds fine to me, ds used to sleep like that at that age. He still sleeps well now, at 3. Just honestly make the most of those long naps, you'll miss them so much when they stop.

liz y ds is a great sleeper at 20mths, would sleep 12 1/2hrs at night and up to 2 1/2 in the day but i dont let him - mean mommie - but he goes to bed always at 8pm for me and conks out.

my bfs dd also slept for hrs until she hit about 2 3/4.
maybe they just need it

If he sleeps well at night let him have his naps as often as you can (I know sometimes you have to wake them for one reason or another) . If he has been a bad sleeper and has been ill he is probably catching up on all the sleep debt he has accumulated over the months. Let him get what he needs as often as you can and enjoy it while it lasts!!
