Babydan bed guard

Hi, I bought a babydan bed guard for dd1 but ended up using a bedside cot so didn't use it. We''ve no moved and this is no longer an option, so am currently bedsharing with 5 month old dd. At the moment she is between me and dh but am aware not ideal. What I want to know is - do you need to screw any of the bedguard into the bed slats? Or does the weight of the mattress hold it in place.

Thanks!!

We had a travel one to stop DS1 fallling iut if his bed and it was the weight of the mattress that held it in place

We use a Tomy bedguard, the weight of the mattress (and us on top of the matress) keeps it there.
