they are all different arent they! just when I thought a 4th baby couldnt spring up any new problems my dd has. started off on gina ford but that went a bit pearshaped. she is sleeping through amazingly well from 7 -8 but is terribly difficult to settle for naps and in the evening. Im basically breastfeeeding her, puting her down asleep then she wakes yells for a bit ill give boob again put her down ..till eventually she settles. doesnt take a dummy, hasnt found her thumb, have tried half heartedly listening to her cry but feel shes a bit young for controlled crying - have done it later with previous children. Half the time I just feel she is exhausted and cant settle herself, I know she isnt hungry as I top up with formula at night and dont feel its colic as she tolerates formula well at other times of the day if necessary.
Any advice, ideas gratefully recieved

We have just done our version of controlled crying - put to bed - cry 5 mins while we wait on the landing - go back in pick up, pat back and shush, put down back outside for 5 mins etc. This is with a 4 month old and it is working really well. We had to do it because she was sharing a bed with her mum, her mum unexpectedly went away for a night and a day leaving me (grandma) and partner to cope! This technique got her used to the cot and to settling herself. But if we had to do it for more than half an hour in total we decided it wasnt sleep time yet, and tried again later. We are now 4 days into it and it is working well, we still have to pick up and put down a couple of times, but then she goes off. (Well done on the sleeping through - we are not there yet).
