Baby sleep bag things - a question...

So I got my 7wo dd a sleep bag thing and have put her in it the last 2 nights as she's started kicking her blankets off.

Thing is, whilst the rest of her is toasty warm, her hands are freezing when I feed her at 4.30. We have the heating come on at 2 to take the chill out of the air a bit, but I don't know how to keep her hands warm.

She 's like her mother and likes to sleep with her arms above her head, so blankets always come off.

Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!

If the room is not warm enough. (What temp is it), how about some mittens? Just those little scratch mitts would be ok.

Saying that, if she doesn't wake up crying, it's obviously not bothering or harming her.

Use a babygrow with built in scratch mitts that you can fold over her hands perhaps? But if it isn't bothering her then don't worry - so long as she is not cold when you feel her chest then she is fine. And unless it is very very cold then you should definitely not put a blanket over the sleeping bag.

My dd has had cold hands and she has been fine, she has been in the sleep bag since she was around the same age and she is now 6 1/2mouths.

They soon tell you if there not happy.

There are different sleeping bags with different togs for different tempertures, but again wont cover the hands, like katandkit said the only other option is built in scratch mitts with babygrows.

If it doesn't wake her, it's not bothering her. Think of it this way- the hands kind of keep her cool, and stop her from overheating. A bit like the way we stick one leg out of the duvet when we are very warm in bed.

You normally check stomach or inside neck to see whether a baby is too cold or hot, hands and extremities arent meant to matter, and are supposed to be cooler....but, icy little fingers

if back of neck is nice and warm, she's fine. Hands can be cold but not blocks of ice as Titty said.

just a small word of warning re: scratch mitts ive been using them and a couple of nights ago my LO woke me up gurgling and she had managed to fill her mouth with scrath mitt which she had pulled off her hands ive been using baby grows with the fold over mitts since!

DS always has cold hands at night. Got very cross if he couldn't get to his hands so mits not an options. Never seems to bother him though.

It's fine - babies often have cold hands.

Don't use loose scratch mitts, for the reasons Hotpotpie says. Look for babygros which fold over if you want to try gloves.

She doesn't seem unhappy about it, she wakes up for a feed then goes back to sleep. Not all her sleep suits have the fold over mitts but I don't like using separate mitts as she likes putting her hands in her mouth.

Just put a search in for "cold hands at night" and come across this thread. My ten week old DS has had them for the past several weeks. I thought about the babygrows with fold over bits but he sucks his fist to drop off so don't want to interfere with that. I assumed that if he was otherwise warm and it wasn't bothering him then I shouldn't worry. The bedroom temp is within the guidelines too. Glad that that's what others are saying here. I always have cold feet and it doesn't bother me so I guess he takes after me!

Last winter when DD was about 10 months her hands were freezing and I was pretty sure she was unhappy about it. My solution was to put babylegs on her arms - pulled up a bit so she could grab her rabbit but during the night they'd roll down over her hands. Might be a bit wide for a tiny baby though.

ps my 8wk old has cold hands in night too - helps wake mummy up for feeding!! Keeps me awake warming them. I was thinking of mittens for Winter.
