I am just about to complete on a new house (It will be just me, dog and baby when it arrives in Feb). I have seen an ad today for a deal on Silent night memory foam mattresses. I also know people who have invested in the more expensive (ouch money!!!) Tempur mattress. I know the saying is 'you get what you pay for' but am just wondering if anyone has any experience (first or even 3rd hand) of the difference between Tempur and its cheaper makers??? One is £199 (deal price) and the Tempur most basic one is about £1300. I am prepared to invest in the Tempur if indeed it is so much better. Any views/ knowledge please? Can't find much opinion on it on the www either.

Not sure about mattress, never tried one, but we have memory foam pillows from poundland and they' seem exactly the same as the tempur one I tested on the floor of John Lewis!

I'd be very surprised if you got a decent mattress for £199. Can you go and try them out somewhere? I would always buy the best I could afford - hard to put a price on a decent night's sleep!
