Help, ds wont sleep in cot

Hi,i'm new to all this but i need HELP. my ds is going to be 1 soon,and i've just stopped breastfeeding i was only going to do it for 6months, but we continued, anyway ds is my first child. Due to my husband working nights and breastfeeding my ds he ended up in bed with me most nights. anyway the problem i now can't get him to sleep in his cot. he sleeps for about 5hrs wakes up i've tried to put him back to sleep but he wont have none of it. as soon as i put him back he just cries. so he ends up back in with me. HELP what do i do.

Is his cot in your room? If not can you try him off in there then when thats worked move him into his room?

My DH has to get up 4am and walk through DS room to get downstairs which can be a nightmare if DS in light sleep and if he wakes I usually cuddle him over the cot, lay him down stroke his back and then leave when calm enough. Sometimes though he just gets left and he soon goes back.

He will cry cos he's pissed off at you but perservere. It will take time, he's got himself a nice habit to break, you got to have nerves of steel

cant u put in own bed with guard my dd1 was 11months when went in bed she slept better kept waking in cot as got stuck in bars and bashing into bars when sleep

123abc is there any reason why you want to put him in his cot particularly? I mean, just now? If you are both happy with co-sleeping, why not continue for a while longer? get a bed guard or put the mattress on the floor if you're worried about him falling out

the cot is in his room at the moment, he has a good feed before he goes to bed i'll try anything i think we'll try the bed guards. the only thing about all this is me and my husband never seem to have any time to ourselves.

can you bring his cot up against your bed? Sorry, I'm sure you've already tried that, but you can actually buy a cot that's designed for this purpose and has one side missing.

That would be ideal.

due to my husband wanting a super kingsize bed we have no space to put the cot in our room.

try using a baby monitor the wrong way round... so that he can hear you in his room

If you really do want him to sleep in his own cot you need to be prepared for a few tough nights.

He will be upset and angry that he isnt doing what he normally does. Whats important is that you dont confuse him and stick with it.

I would suggest you put him in his cot as normal, and when he wakes and doesnt settle back to sleep, pat and shush him back to sleep but keep him in his cot.

If he is hysterical, pick him up, cuddle him until he calms down - dont talk to him except to say "you are only going to sleep" or something similar. Then lay him back down as soon as he is calm.

The first night you might pick him and put him down 40 times. You may be in there for 4-5 hours calming him. The next night - should be less, and the night after even less than that - if at all.

The important thing is to stick with it. There is no point in allowing him to be upset for a couple of hours to then bring him into your bed anyway. Its confusing for him.

You could also try putting a top in the cot with him that you have worn that day so he has your smell next to him.

i think it was in the daily mirror about 2 weeks ago it mentioned that they gave of radiation just like cordless phones

Okay - make sure you have a comfy chair/temp bed in DS's room - when i did this i was up for 4 hours constantly and we had no other furniture in the room at the time.

The next day i set up a comfy chair and something to sleep on and he slept through so i didnt need it

apparently it was for digital monitors - radiation, not all are digital so just have a look about.
