Tips for toddler sleep on holiday

My 20 month old is a good sleeper at home. However, last time we went away he was a total nightmare during the whole time we were away (a weekend). He refused to settle and would cry on waking in the night. Any tips to make it go more smoothly for our next trip?

Where does he sleep at home and where will he sleep on holiday? Does he any toys or comforters that you can take? Will you be taking a nightlight?

In his cot normally with toys and books. Tends to go down well do long as we've read enough stories... When we are away he would go in a separate room but worried he will freak out and we'll need to keep him with us and baby in the other room...

Travel black out blinds and a radio on softly in the background and your own unwashed cot sheets and blankets so it smells of home.
It sometimes works for us sometimes it doesn't. :)

Would you rather have good sleep at home or on holiday? We give in and cosleep on holiday. Hell getting routine back at home but holidays are nice.

DD was about the same age when we last went away. We took our own cot sheet with us, plus co-slept if necessary. It was reasonably easy to get back into a routine when we got back. On holiday we figured that us all getting proper rest was more important than keeping the sleep in cot routine. Most nights we let her fall asleep in our bed then transferred to.her cot, as going to sleep was a problem rather than staying asleep IYSWIM.
