Growth spurt/regression/teething/something else?

I was hoping someone could help or had experienced similar. My DS is 8 months and has been sleeping through the night with no feeds since 15 weeks. He did have a 10.30pm dream feed until about 6.5 months but since then has had last feed at 7pm then not again until 7am. We often have times when he has needed resettling in the night, but never had to feed him to achieve this.

Well, the last two nights he has woken around 4am, initially it seemed teething related (lots of complaining and chewing on dummy) but both times nothing has been able to stop him crying (changed nappy, cuddles, pain relief medicine, teetha, teething gel etc) except a full milk feed, after which he has happily gone back in his cot and slept until 7 - 7.30am. This is so out of character as he is an excellent self settler, so I can only assume he is genuinely hungry as both nights any attempt for me to leave him in the cot has been met with hysterics, until he was fed then he was happy to be left as usual.

Had anyone else had this around 8 months, or does anyone know if its common at this time? He is fully weaned and has 3 good meals a day plus 4 bottles of usually around 5oz although last of the day tends to be closer to 9oz. Other info is that he has no teeth yet (but my DD didn't get her first until 14 months so I think we produce late teethers) and he is crawling and pulling to standing a lot, so quite active. Any thoughts appreciated.

I think they do get a bit unsettled around 8 months, last bit of random growth spurt. Isn't it the last 'golden' something or other? My brain is abit mushed. Google 8 month sleep regression and see what it says.......I am well Envy of your sleeping through though!

Hi OP,

Can't help I'm afraid, but I'm having something very similar with my 8mo. Sleep all over the place at the moment. Seem to have cracked the nights by giving him an extra big dinner, but the last few days it's been hell getting him to go down for naps during the day. It just seems like he needs a different amount of nap at a completely different time each day, whereas he used to be like clockwork. Completely flummoxed.

BTW congrats on the crawling etc! We're still waiting. Envy from me too...

Thanks for responses. I think he is probably just a bit unsettled or something is bothering him as the last 4 days have been all over the place (5.45 worst, 7.30 and having to be woken at best). An early morning feed (4.30 - 5am) definitely seems to help though so hunger must be playing a part. He managed until 6.40am this morning though with no extra feed (but I had unsettled night with him), although still looked tired when I went in at 6.50am. I know I should be happy that he sleeps until he does, but he is such a loud baby when he wakes and I am worried he will interfere with his sisters sleep as she definitely needs to sleep until 7am and has no chance to catch up during the day as she no longer naps.

Looks like I will have to ride it out and monitor a bit longer!
