Do you think my 2yo sleeps too much?

Dd was a terrible sleeper for 12 months and I never thought I'd be asking this question!
She is 2yrs and 2 months and sleeps from 7pm till 6.45 ish every night, sometimes sleeping till 7.30. She also has a nap every day, which can be up to 2 1/2 hours long. She is often really sleepy even after this nap and desperate to go to bed after dinner. We thought she was getting ready to drop the nap a few weeks ago as it had become a fight to get her over but she has started having one again.

She has had a bit of a cold and cough for a while and we thought she was sleepy cos the cough was keeping her awake at night but I haven't heard her coughing for ages now.

Shoudl I just be grateful?

Yes you should. Sounds fine to me. Make the most of it because if she still needs lots of sleep when she is at school it might be tricky.

my dd1 is 3 and a half and still sleeps 730pm til 6am, and has a 2 hr nap every afternoon. she just conks out on the couch after playgroup and lunch

I'm just waiting for my 2 yr old to wake up from his nap. I put him down at 12.30p.m. He'll still go to bed tonight at 7.30pm and sleep until 8a.m tommorrow. I'm grateful! Grin

FrayedKnot · 07/03/2006 14:57

Yep!

DS (2 in 2 weeks) sleeps 12-13 hours at night. He naps for 2 hours after lunch & I have actually recently increased it from 1 1/2 hours as he has just started nursery, and he really needs it.

I am going to try to keep going with it for as long as possible.

Dam! Spoke to soon. Second I hit post I heard the little voice over the monitor. Mommy, it's time to get up my music has gone off. I have had 2 1/2 hours rest.

Hayls · 07/03/2006 14:58

Thanks, most of her friends have given up their naps now or have a little 30 minute cat nap so it's good to have other comparisons!
Flip, my dd has also been asleep since 12.30 and I heard her stirring a few mins ago so went in to say hello then wandered out again- just went back in and she's asleep again!

Envy ds dropped his nap at 15 months - still sleeps well at night, but oh - what would I give for a nice break during the day! Envy

Sorry, geekgirl Blush. Does he fall asleep in his dinner? I've always wondered if that is a myth
This is her way of paying us back for 12 months of getting up every hour and never napping for more than 45 monutes!

My DS has fallen asleep in his dinner at about 3 yo when he dropped daytime naps on nursery days (early example of peer pressure). My DD has fallen asleep in her lunch (when she went from two naps to one).

She is 1.10 and sleeps from 7.30 to 7 and has 1.5 to 2 hour nap.

fennel · 07/03/2006 16:07

sounds fairly normal to me. dd3 is nearly 2 and does 12+ hours at night and often 2 hours in the daytime. more if she's a bit ill.

dd1 was like this but stopped napping at 3 and a bit. in time to start school at 3.5. she then used to come home from school and nap at 3.30 for the first term or so.

sleep is great. enjoy it.

Twiglett · 07/03/2006 16:08

my 21 month old sleeps from 7pm to 7.30 - 8am ( occasionally 6.30am but that winds us up)

she has just woken up from her afternoon nap .. 3hours 15 mins

be grateful Grin

Carameli · 07/03/2006 16:10

another sleeper here... 2.5yrs dd loves her sleep, nightime about 7ish till 7am ish then also an after lunch nap for 2 2.5hrs and she never really wants to get up even then.

spursmum · 07/03/2006 16:11

Im with Geekgrrl. Ds dropped his nap by 15 months and now Im lucky if he sleeps 12 hours a night. I can get him in bed for 7pm because I know he'll play quietly in the dark for 1/2 an hour.

knat · 07/03/2006 16:28

hi hayls hope u're ok. My dd sleeps from 7pm ish to 7.00am ish at the mo. Sometimes she has a daytime nap of anything from 45 mins to 1 hour 30 mins but not always. She was sleeping from 7pm to 8.00-8.30am and then no daytime nap but for some reason has changed to gettingup earlier !!!! (what a blow!) Today she was up around 6.45 and hasn't had a nap all day. So bathtime will probably be hell!

Piffle · 07/03/2006 16:36

MY 3 yr old sleep this much
12-13 hrs at night and 2-3 hrs in the afternoon
Enjoy :)

yomellamoHelly · 07/03/2006 16:49

To echo others, would advise you to enjoy while you can. Ds is 2.5 and hasn't slept in the day since he was 2.2. Went from a 3-3.5 hour nap if I let him and 12 hours at night to only 11.5 hours at night in one go. Still playing around with his day to try and figure out what's best to do with this new regime and how to build in quiet time for us both.
