Standing up in cot

My 11 month old has recently started standing in cot when he wakes in the night. In the past i've used a variation of controlled crying where i go in to him when he first wakes, then leave him for 5 mins, 10 mins etc etc. I has been working albeit slowly and his sleeping has improved, bar the occational night of teething/illness but now i don't know what to do as he doesn't seem to go back off to sleep if he is standing. Two nights ago i was in and out of his room for two hours between 4 & 6am. I eventually gave in at 6am and bought him in to our bed.

I started back to work this week and Lucas has been in nursery this week and last so this may have impacted on his sleeping??

Would like some advice on what to do about his standing though. Will he need to learn to lie back down? Or should i keep going in and lying him back down until he learns not to stand up. I feel i am being completely inconsistent at the moment.

I have the same problem too with DS standing up in the cot. If I lay him down again he starts screaming, will be watching this with interest.

nothing to add but sympathy I'm afraid. My DD (10m) is exactly the same - very happy being put in cot, but goes for a good wander around, crawling then standing, loves it if I'm in the room with her. Thinks it's hilarious if I lay her down. Cries miserably if I leave the room. She will eventually go to sleep by herself, but I hate leaving her to cry for that long (about 25 mins). On the other hand, if I go in every so often to do cuddle and lay down, this seems to prolong the whole process and gets her overtired - it's a really irritating problem, so I feel your pain! Have you (both - OP and scrivette tried leaving him to get on with it? if so, what happens?

Pleased to say we haven't had a problem with standing for the past few nights so i think it may be a symptom of nursery. I've found him standing in the morning (5am) a couple of times but when/if he wakes in the night and he has remained lying. He doesn't seem to have a problem getting to sleep at 7pm as he is usually really tired, but when he wakes in the evening/night I tend to go in as I can't tell with the nursery door closed whether he is standing or not. If he doesn't settle after i've been in i would leave him to settle himself and if he continues to stand i'll have to leave him. I saw over the weekend that he can get down again once standing, just not sure in the sleeping bag...
Will update with progress.

If I leave him standing he just cries and cries until I go back in and lay him down.
