Co-sleeping advice needed

I have co-slept with my DS from birth as he would never settle in a cot. I have always felt very confident doing so, and have always woken very quickly at the slightest snort to see to him. Recently however, he has been sleeping a bit better, giving me 5 hour chunks or so. This means I have been sleeping a lot deeper and it has taken more for him to rouse me - last night I didn't wake until he was sat up, moaning and slapping my belly.

Given that I now seem to have lost that 'newborn' responsiveness, is it still safe to co-sleep? I am still very careful with bedding and am still bfing. DS is 11mo and walking so I'm pretty sure he'd be able to move himself out of the way of any hazards. I've also had a horrible cold recently, which I think may be partly to blame for my heavy sleeps.

yep, absolutely fine! as you say, he can move and wiggle out of the way

be careful if you are taking any medicine for your colds though.
