naps - what to expect?

my dd is 23 wks and her naps seem to have settled a bit, a short (30-40 mins) in the am and pm with a longer one at lunch (1.5hrs, although she wakes and chats for 10 -15mins in the middle of this one)

She seems happy with this - and I am happy to go with the flow, it is so much better than the 5 or 6x20 minute naps phases she has just moved on from

But HV keeps on about she should be having only 2 naps a day a morning and afternoon - am happy to ignore her but was just wondering if the 2 naps a day are the norm and dd is just being individual! or if HV talking load of rubbish

I have been told that naps tend to settle down at about 6months and am just wondering what other lo's did at this age and how their naps changed over time.

If you are happy and she is happy, I would just go with the flow - why upset your DD? I haven't heard this before and as long as you are both happy I'd be tempted to ignore her.

My DS didn't nap at regular times and I had ot work really hard at settling him into a routine, I would have been very pleased to be in your situation!!

You will probably find she drops to 2 naps of her own accord over the coming months

Dd cat napped for her first couple of moths and then settled into a similar pattern to your Dd. She held onto this for another couple of months and then went to the more traditional 2 naps. I figure they're all individual and will sleep when they need it, as long as it isn't effecting night time sleep then I'd say to let her carry on!

Hi GNL, my ds is 31 weeks and still has 3 naps a day. He sometimes does a long one at the beginning of the day followed by 2 shorter ones or short/long/short. Think HV is being far too rigid....so long as your dd is happy. Take no notice of her.

thanks - will just go with the flow - my only problem is lunch! 11.30 seems very earl;y and very soon after her milk feed at 11 yet 1.45 seems very late. i am going for 1.45 atm as this is a time she seems eager to eat.

any thoughts?

I have the same problem...and I'm still not in a routine with ds. Sometimes feed him early - about 11.30 and sometimes not until much later..
I never know what he's going to do in terms of naps but I try and space out his bottles and solids so if he had a bottle at 11am...I would leave lunch until after the nap.

thanks - I keep forgetting that it is all change now soon she will be having less milk and more solids and will probably be able to stay up that little bit later before her big nap. For the time being I will go with milk at 11 and lunch at 1.45
