5 year old can't fall asleep until late

DD1 had a dummy until almost 4 and was usually asleep within 30 seconds. We got rid of her dummy over a year ago and she still has trouble falling asleep. She lies in bed awake from 7.30 ish until at least 9. Consequently she is shattered and has to be dragged out of bed for school every morning. I've tried reward charts, coaxing, getting cross, bribery, putting her down a bit later and nothing works. She is tired but just can't get herself to sleep. Any suggestion would be fab!

I have the same problem and can´t find any advice to help - you look at books and anything to do with sleep problems ends with the child falling asleep. My 5 you DD just can´t fall asleep til usually 2 hours after bedtime. She doesn´t always come out of her room - when she does I try to do the silent, lead-back-to-bed routine - but often flicks through books in the darkened room, talks to her dollies etc. We do have to push her out of bed in the morning but she doesn´t seem overtired so it makes me think this is the way she´s built. But it´s really wearing me down as I have so many things I want to do in the evening and can´t. And she´s recently started sharing a bunk bed with the 3 yo DD and this has disrupted her sleeping routine which was previously very good. I just want to find someone who recognises this issue, and can advise or say it´s normal and is just a (several year long) phase.

Have you tried to get her up earlier in the morning for a few days and seeing if that has a knock-on effect. Has worked for us for a period.

I have a similar problem. Don't know what to advise as tried all the things you have and also if she gets up earlier like beanbuille said worked for a while, that doesn't work either. My other children were ok and I can't see that I've done anything different.
