DD is 2y 8mo and has been sleeping happily in a grobag and cotbed. However, since the weekend she has been climbing out (takes the grobag off first) so we felt we should take the sides off. Also, DC2 due in 8 weeks so we felt it should be now or leave it a lot longer

Duvet and covers duly purchased and all set to go tonight. She was very excited about it and played in it before bedtime.

I left her 20 minutes ago after stories and mostly the usual bedtime routine. She immediately 'needed' the potty (wears a night nappy still at the moment) so I felt I needed to let her try (she didn't). Since then she is obviously playing in the room and I think I heard the Velcro sound of nappy being removed.

When in her cot she would often chat to herself for a whole before falling asleep, so we didn't think we needed to insist on being in bed - but will she keep this up all night? I'll go and replace the nappy once (if ever) she's asleep.

I know the morning is going to be very early. Blackout blind on order and friend has a groclock to try from tomorrow.

How have others coped with this transition? I know children are often a lot younger when moved.

We had to let our daughter drop her afternoon nap in order for her to sleep in her bed as at first when she was learning she had to be completely exhausted to go to sleep without playing! Didn't last long though!

It was...pretty good I think. Lots of playing, and I went in when she cried at about 8.30 (usually asleep 7ish). She'd taken her nappy off and weed in the potty! Room was total carnage. Put her back in bed and I could hear her get up again - she was standing behind the door sucking he thumb. I went downstairs and didn't hear from her again. When I checked at my bedtime, she was in the bed, tucked up nicely under the covers, looking very cute.

Woke at 6.30ish I think. Played on her own and called me at 7.30! I can't describe the state of her room - but we tidied it before breakfast.

I think it was a success. She has mostly dropped her afternoon nap - only ever sleeps in the car - so I'll keep that to a minimum.
