Current family allow 2.8yo 45-60 minutes, supposed to be after lunch but she often takes herself to bed as it is being cooked so gets the hour.

Fiveisenough · 18/04/2012 13:45

DS is 2.9. No sleep in the day unless out
In the car then we sing loud songs to keep
Him awake or he would never go to bed!

BirdyBedtime · 18/04/2012 13:47

Neither of my DCs had daytime naps much after they turned 2 apart from when in the car which could be a pain, or when ill. I always wondered about kids still having long naps at this age - did they wake up really early, go to bed late, or just need more sleep!

Agamumnon · 18/04/2012 13:48

DS (2.8) dropped his nap when he turned two but picked it back up again about a month ago and now has a blissful hour at lunchtime.

Iggly · 18/04/2012 13:52

2.6, ds has 90 mins, sometimes 2 hours. He can go without a nap on rare occasions if he hasn't done much. Otherwise he gets a nap. He naturally falls asleep at half 7 and wakes between 6 and half 6 (which suits us for work).

We plan to keep his nap until he goes to school Grin ok maybe not. But I think naps really help him as when he's tired, he's bloody hard work after 2pm.

Chippychop · 18/04/2012 13:52

Dd 2.4 sleeps at least 2 hrs a day after lunch and really needs it. She's 98.th. percentile and then sleeps 11 hrs at night. She often misses it if we're out and about at the weekend but is naggy later

insancerre · 18/04/2012 13:52

I work with this age group and none of them have 2 naps a day.
Some have 1 for about an hour and a half after lunch and some go all day without a nap.

FunnysInLaJardin · 18/04/2012 13:52

DS2 is 2.2 and he still has an hour or so after lunch. We did try to drop his nap but he couldn't stay awake until 6pm bedtime, so we have to put up with a nap and lateish bedtime. He goes to his cot at about 6.45 but can often still be awake at 9pm!

GeeandTee · 18/04/2012 13:53

My DS (2.5) still has 2 hrs after lunch and 12 hrs at night. I know a 3yo who still has the same. DS sleeps more than my 4 month old DD!

insancerre · 18/04/2012 13:53

oh and some have a nap but not every day, just when they are tired.

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 18/04/2012 13:57

My 2.6 hasn't had a daytime nap for just under a year - he used to have mandatory ones in his old nursery then wouldn't go to bed until 10 so since we moved him which was beginning of June he hasn't had one - it's much easier as he doesn't get cranky and goes to bed between 6:30 and 7:30 and gets up at 7 4 days a week for nursery and about 8 on days off

He is a great sleeper so I'm happy with no naps!

Harperseventy · 19/04/2012 07:52

My dd 2.5 has 2-3 hrs after lunch. Bedtime is 7-7.30 and would sleep til 8.30/9 if I didn't get her up. I hope this never ends....... Grin

crazygracieuk · 19/04/2012 07:59

I have 3 kids. 1 stopped naps at 15 months and slept 10 hours at night, 1 had 1.5 hour naps until 4 and slept 12 hours at night, 1 had 1 hour naps until 2.5 year old and slept 11 hours at night.

ancienthistrionics · 19/04/2012 08:05

Ds is 2.6 and although he can go without a nap, he does start to lose the plot about 5pm when it's too late to put him down. He is then very easy to put to bed at 7pm and wakes at 6.

If I put him down with a bottle of hot milk at 12.30 he sleeps till at least 4.30 Shock. He would then go to bed at 8 or 8.30 and sleep till 6.

I let him have his nap because I freelance and it gives me time to do my work and also because overall he gets more sleep.

bunnyfrance · 19/04/2012 08:29

DS, 2.7, has two hours after lunch. He goes to bed at 8pm and gets up at 6am. I imagine that if he slept 7 to 7 he wouldn't have a nap, but then we'd never see him before and after work!

TheCunningStunt · 19/04/2012 08:33

Both mine stopped naps at 18 months ish. However dd is 2(almost 3) and can fall asleep in the car easily, but wakes up when it stops. She doesn't need a nap, she just likes sleeping in the carGrin. They stopped as they slept 14 hours a night, now they both sleep for 12-13 hours...DS is 5.

stump · 19/04/2012 13:25

my DS is just in the process of dropping his nap he is 2.8 TBH he has been 'dropping' it since about christmas sometimes having it and sometimes not, but recently he has been going more and more days without a nap. I find if he does sleep in the day now he is a pin to get to sleep in the evening and wakes several times in the night. On days he doesn;t have it he is asleep by 7/7.30 and last night didn't wake me up until 5am (woo hoo! - he has only done that twice in his life!!!) then he went back to sleep until 6:45, so I'm going to go for it now and try get him to stop it every day. I'm trying to replace nap time with quiet time on the sofa infront of the TV which is what he is doing now.
