transition from 2 naps to 1 nap difficulties....

DD is 13MO and typically wakes at 6.30am. She has been having one nap in the morning at about 9.30 for 30 mins and then another in the afternoon at about 1.30 until 3 and then bedtime by 7.30 and 11 hours sleep at night.

She is starting to resist her morning nap, and often at 9.30 (3 hours after waking) doesn't seem tired enough to go down so i thought i would try and move her to one nap a day and we tried this yesterday.

she woke at 6.30 and we had a lovely morning, had an early lunch at 11.30 and then she put her down at 12 (she had started falling asleep on the highchair, bless her!) All went fine, but then she only slept her usual 1hr 30mins and so was awake at 1.30 (when she would usually only be going down for her afternoon nap). so, we had an early dinner and she went to sleep earlier by 6.45, but consequently was awake at 5.45 (she seems very definitely to only want 11 hours at night!!)

So today, she was too tired by 9.30 to keep her going, so i have reverted back to giving her 2 naps, as otherwise she would be exhausted by this evening.

I am wondering how to approach this transition. Is it a good idea to alternate 1 nap one day and 2 the next, or will this confuse her little body, but unless she is getting longer than 1 hr 30 in the afternoon i don't think she can manage on just 1 nap.

Any ideas?! thanks.

I would alternate as you really don't want her getting overtired. I'd still try putting her down for her morning nap when she wakes at 6.30. If she sleeps start waking her after 15 mins as that should help her to last until her usual nap time.
