DS2 is 7wks and until the last few days would nap (after some encouragement) in his basket, or in my bed, or in the sling (definitely) or in the buggy (definitely) BUT today - nothing worked!

I put him in his basket after being up for just an hour in the morning, to avoid over-tiredness. He grizzled and I shh'd for about 5mins and he went to sleep. I was dead chuffed. But he woke after 10mins. I repeated the shh-ing, took longer this time. Slept for 5 mins. Repeated for a bit. Eventually he slept for 30mins. Tried again a bit later, this time I caved and fed him to sleep. 30min nap.

Desperate, I took him out in the buggy - he went straight to sleep but didn't stay asleep.

What's happened?? He's still awake now, at 8.30pm, and so wired it looks like he's on speed Confused

What to doooo? Help me!

Got a bouncy chair? That seems to work on dd (9 weeks) when gets to that so tired won't settle stage. Ours has a vibration setting that seems to help. Something about angle and slight movement seems to settle her

Thanks for replying - yup, got one of those. He just smiles in it til he gets bored, then yells!

Could he be having a growth spurt and therefore be wanting to feed more than usual?

mistressploppy · 27/03/2012 09:17

That's what I'm hoping, Dairy. I'm worried it's my fault for being out and about so much that he's only learnt to nap in motion

Ah I wouldn't worry, he's still so young. You've got plenty time to gradually change his sleeping habits Smile

A fisher price cradle swing was my god send. Guess that doesn't help the motion thing tho!! Xxx

We had real problems with DD sleeping from 3 weeks to 5 weeks or so, and then discovered swaddling which has been an absolute godsend for us. It doesn't really work during the daytime yet (but I suspect that is a slightly separate issue with daytime naps) but in the nighttime it means she goes off solidly and doesn't wake herself up. We had tried half a dozen different things before this worked, so could be worth a try? When they won't sleep everything is worth a try until something works!

Oh, we use Swaddle Me wraps as they are so easy to use and, for a small baby, difficult to get out of.
