is ds too old for co-sleeping?

ds is nearly 5. he goes to bed and to sleep in his own room, no problem.

However every night he gets into bed with me, any time between midnight and 5am. he rarely disturbs me, if I realise he's there I'm too drowsy to force myself to put him back to bed (which would result in a very sad, "lonely" ds).

Am I letting him get into bad habits? does it matter? It's just me and him, so there is lots of room in the bed and I tbh I quite like having him close by and I know he likes coming in for cuddles.

But is this going to mean he will never happily sleep alone? (I am not envisaging him doing this as a teenager, really hadn't thought it would go on this long, it's been like this for nearly a year). He goes for sleepovers at grandparents and cousins' houses without me and is perfectly fine (and stays in his own bed there! just me he wants to be with...)

Any honest but kindly phrased thoughts welcome please!

My nephew is 10. He still regularly sleeps in bed with his mum, which I think is a bit weird.

I don't think 5 is too old though. Would probably draw the line at 7ish.....

My ds was five yesterday and dies exactly the same thing. He did go through about a three month phase if staying in his own bed all night, reinforced with reward chart. The reward chart no longer works and he has cottoned on that if he sneaks into bed quietly he will probably get away with it.

My brother apparently did the same thing until he was about seven. He now lives in Australia so presumably ds will stop too ....
