DH snoring keeps me awake

Not sure if this is the right board for this but ... thread title says it all really.

Anybody tried anything that really works? because right now we are in separate bedrooms and I don't think that's a long-term solution.

Thanks.

My dh and I are also in separate bedrooms, I don't think we would still be married if we had to share a bed every night! You could wear foam ear plugs which work quite well, but I find them uncomfortable if I wear them every night.

Whobuilt · 08/03/2012 19:02

Superdrugs earplugs work wonders, definitely the comfiest out of a lot of tried and tested brands. My friend says a super king bed helps too HTH

TheCrackFox · 08/03/2012 19:15

I am seriously considering the pillow over DH's face method.

Hathor · 08/03/2012 19:25

You can't snore if you have to breathe through your nose. Take a small piece of medical tape and tape his lips together.

EauRouge · 08/03/2012 19:28

Has he been checked for sleep apnoea? My DH was diagnosed and now has a CPAP machine. It's bloody brilliant, he doesn't snore at all. It's a bit like sleeping next to Darth Vader, but much quieter. He gets a better night's sleep too.

Snowsister · 08/03/2012 19:29

Same bed but have a second one somewhere he can slope off to when you've had enough?

DialMforMummy · 08/03/2012 20:30

Another fan of Superdrug earplugs! Thanks to them I no longer punch DH in the night.

Moln · 08/03/2012 20:37

seriously considering Hathor's tape idea here

south345 · 08/03/2012 20:38

I've just been tested for sleep apnoea, still awaiting the results. Not tried anything else yet as didn't want to take tablets etc if I can help it.

GeorgeEliot · 09/03/2012 19:06

Threatened DH with the tape - he wasn't keen.

Last night wasn't so bad, put in earplugs (silicone ones from Boots) but they didn't seem to block much noise, so maybe I need to get the superdrug ones.

I couldn't use earplugs as DD is still waking in the night (and DH miraculously doesn't hear her...) but I was sick of listening to him, so I've been using a phone app that plays the sound of the ocean. Somehow means I can focus on something other than the snoring and I can still hear DD if she cries.

KeepingUpWithTheCojones · 10/03/2012 20:38

Those breatheright strips work well, but they have to be perfectly positioned and can be quite expensive. Getting him to lie on his front with one pillow helps DH's snoring. And getting him to change positions if he's snoring helps too. You can get wristbands that encourage him to change positions when he's snoring (like this) but we make do without. He found it awkward at first but now DH can only get to sleep on his front.

ItsaMissTerri · 10/03/2012 20:59

George.....Just wanted to sympathise with you... it gets you down doesn't it? I have the same problem. Its the randomness of the noises that do my head in...if it was just a steady noise on same level I couldprobably get used to it but every few minutes it builds up to an almighty grunt grrrrr...this can wake me from deep sleep (cross face icon). The only earplugs that work for me are the Bio Ears silicone ones from Boots.
Some nights though I slope off to a cold single guest bed Sad but at least i get uninterrupted sleep for the night

DukesOfTripHazard · 14/03/2012 14:01

We have our own rooms. If it works do it. Sleep is important.

jumpinghoops · 14/03/2012 14:48

Sympathies from me too- I am in the same place and sometimes it makes me RAGE!! I wear the 4.99 silicone earplugs from Boots every night, I'm not sure long term if this is OK for my ears but there is no other option (no spare room or bed here!!)

At the weekend, we stayed in a hotel and it ended up getting so bad I spent part of the night sleeping on the tiled bathroom floor!!
